Description

The main stones are black Agate with a pretty white crackle pattern to them.  Each bead is different from the next.  These are spaced with chunky silver beads with a Celtic knot pattern.  Little beads of black Lava dotted throughout the Crystals finish this necklace off beautifully.

The Emmeline Pankhurst crystal and gemstone necklace hangs symmetrically for a polished look, and uses only stones chosen for their depth of colour and clarity of markings.  When you need something special, this is your lady!

18″ / 45cm long.  Silver findings and toggle clasp.

Note: the metal beads in the images are Tibetan silver.  Your necklace will be made to the same pattern with all Sterling silver beads and findings, which are slightly different, however the general design will remain the same.

Birthstone: Agate – Gemini, Virgo or Libra

Collection: Emmeline Pankhurst

BeeJewelled’s necklace collections are named after those influential and important women we have looked up to throughout history.

Emmeline was a leading British suffragette in the late 1800s and early 1900s, who played a militant role in helping to gain women the right to vote.  After her husband’s death, Emmeline threw herself into the women’s suffrage movement and in 1903 she formed the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU).  It was through the political action of the WSPU that the term women’s suffragette movement was created. She led a passionate group of women who were willing to take part in drastic action such as tying themselves to railings, smashing windows and launching demonstrations.  Many were arrested, including Pankhurst.

During the war effort, women were drafted into factories and took on many jobs which were previously the preserve of men, such as bus drivers and postmen.  The radical social change of the First World War helped to diminish the opposition to women getting the vote, and in 1918 women over the age of 30 were given the vote.  Then in 1928, the same year that Pankhurst died, women were granted equal voting rights with men at 21.  Whether you agree with her tactics or not, her courage to stand up against the social injustices of the time cannot be denied.

Trust in God – she will provide.

All metal findings, chains, clasps and earring hooks are the finest 925 Sterling silver, sourced from the UK. Unless stated otherwise.

Due to the nature of handmade, your jewellery may be slightly different to that in the images, however the essential design will be the same.

The materials I use are entirely natural, with differing shapes, sizes and colours. Some may have small natural inclusions or be more segmented with patches of differing hues, meaning that each is beautifully unique.
